House 63.02 degrees

With a very narrow lot area of 24.58 sq. meters, Japanese architecture firm Schemata had a very compact space to deal with. Their solution was the 63.02 degrees house.

Located in a crowded residential area in Nakano, Tokyo, this small house (71.40 sq. meters) is positioned on an extremely narrow lot, which results in a very angular architecture design and a unique positioning of the house facade.
The name of the house is actually taken from the facade’s 63.02 ° inclination toward the front road.
The house faces sideways overlooking the open space between the road and the adjacent building, where a wide and deep view is acquired. Huge windows were placed on the inclined facade in order to increase the spatial feeling of the interior as well as maximize the views of the neighbor’s blossoming cherry tree and the cityscape.

Beach House

Check out this small beach house by London-based, Studiomama. With its cedar shingles exterior and softwood interior, the 388 sq. ft. Beach Chalet offers a compact living space full of charm and character.

This small beach house is built on galvanized steel stilts to prevent flooding. The inside has been leveled due to a sloppy lot and internal and external steps were used for easy access.
This home-away-from-home is quite small, however with a cozy sleeping platform on top, a kitchen, bathroom and bunk beds for the kids, the Beach Chalet is an ideal getaway home with beautiful sea views as well as lovely views over the country side.

Kennedy Residence

The Kennedy Residence is a small 3 story house located on a hillside terrain. It uses prefabricated 8′ wide vertical panels which remain standardized from the main floor and above, but are lengthened or shortened at their lower ends to adapt to varying slopes and lower floor configurations.

Designed to take advantage of the cost saving efficiencies of prefabricated structures, this modern prefab home is yet another unique architectural design from Anderson Anderson Architecture.
I love the shape of this small house; how it curves against the hillside terrain, yet still manages to fully maximize its small, open plan interior design.
